My research focused on intergenerational trauma and how it’s explored in films, as well as how the theme is presented to various audiences through different genres. Those genres included action, drama, comedy, horror, animated, family, and musical. I researched how certain genres told stories with the theme to audiences of different ages
“Never Enough” explores the theme of intergenerational trauma. The film is a motion design piece. The film explores a few genres including animated, comedy, and action.
The young girl feels pressured to surpass expectations set by her parents. After she works hard and meets those expectations she has a dream where she loses her parents to monsters. To avenge them, she vows to kill all monsters and makes two robots to achieve this. She pushes her robots to overwork themselves and encourages them to put themselves in harm. This makes them wonder if they can reconcile with their creator.
I’m conveying the theme of intergenerational trauma through the story of a young girl. This young girl has a strained relationship with her parents and that strained relationship passes down to the robots she creates. It’s inspired by the films I watched for research. All the children in those films had strained relationships with their parents.
